MIAMI BAKEHOUSE WINS BAKER’S DOZEN AT THE GREAT AUSSIE PIE AWARDS 2020

In a year when anything can happen, the team at Miami Bakehouse have risen to the challenge!

At this year’s Great Aussie Pie Awards yesterday, things were a little different to the norm. Covid-19 may have cancelled the Fine Food Australia Show that usually runs along-side the annual Great Aussie Pie competition but nothing will stop Aussies when it comes to celebrating all things pie related! The Awards show was broadcast in a Facebook Live feed which meant the normally closed industry-only event could now be viewed from anywhere in the world!

Local Mandurah based bakery business Miami Bakehouse have entered and won in the competition for 17 years and know a thing or two about pies! With over 850 baking Industry awards already the Miami team has an impressive collection. There is no stopping the creative genius of the baking team when it comes to delicious unique flavours.

The first pie to win GOLD was the legendary Garlic Prawn with its succulent prawns smothered in a creamy garlic sauce with parsley, white wine and sherry, is a closely guarded secret recipe. This was closely followed by a GOLD medal for Ginger Chilli Pork, Smokey Bourbon Pork and this week’s celebrated Pie of the Week Beef Guinness and Vegetables.

For the second year running the Pork, Tarragon and Mustard Sausage Roll also won GOLD as well as the family favourite Apple and Raspberry Pie.

Miami Bakehouse proudly supports local producers and suppliers and star fresh ingredients in all their food from Stirling Ranges Angus Beef, Plantagenet Pork, Amelia Park Lamb and Free-Range Chicken as well as local WA food ingredients from Brownes Dairy and Millers Flour.

But it’s not just the fresh local ingredients and flavour that the judges liked, it’s also the pastry that won the attention. In a world where so much of our food production is automated, it’s great to know that making handmade pastry is still very much part of the Miami Bakehouse pie making process. Again, a closely guarded secret pastry method, the flaky top and shortcrust base is a true winner.
